Lemon Jelly – Lost Horizons

I believe it would be a great day if we could petition to get all elevator and hold Muzak replaced with Lemon Jelly tracks.

Because listening to Lemon Jelly just makes you so frigging happy you want to scream.

For those who don’t know about the artistic collaboration of Fred Deakin and Nick Franglin, they’re a couple of super talented brits who make music and art.  Fred has a nice graphics business (Airside) and designs all the album and ad art for the band…most of which is easily recognizable as the Lemon Jelly Brand.  All of their albums were released on 10″ vinyl with hand screen printed covers that consistently go for big $ on EBay (which is good to know ’cause I actually have a few.) If you’ve never seen them, they’re beautiful.

They give legendary shows in England that really sound awesome.  Like the Saturday morning children’s charity show, Jelly Tots, where they showed cartoons on big screens and had the field filled with balloons and bouncy castles while they played.  Or once. instead of an opening act…they had a huge game of Bingo.  Bingo!

After releasing a spate of EP’s in the late 90’s, the duo took the collected tracks and created their first album, “Lemon Jelly.KY,” which was released to commercial and critical acclaim.  “Lost Horizons” is their first proper album and is just as good…if not better.  With tracks like “Space Walk’  or the infamous ‘Nice Weather for Ducks,’ the album plays like a soundtrack to a really good dream.

One of those dreams where you’re flying, being crowned King, or having sex with Jessica Alba.

They also have a new album called ’64-’95…you’ll need that as well.  Actually, just go out and find all the Lemon Jelly you can find.  You need it all.

I was talking to Mr Scruff the other day and was expressing my displeasure with Lemon Jelly never making it out to the states before they broke up.  Then some other people showed up with beer and he got distracted.  But I like to think of their “break-up” much in the same way I think of Outkast’s last double album.  They just want to do solo stuff for a bit, but they’ll team up again …not to worry.

Amazon…cheap download, expensive CD!

I’m a little late here, but i have just discovered blogging. I too love Lemon Jelly and was quite upset to learn that they had gone their seperate ways. Any ideas what’s happening with them musically?

As far as I know, Fred and Nick have split but are still working on solo work. I reccommend Fred Deakin Presents – The Tryptych…its a three disc mix of just about everything awesome. That should tide us over until they decide to get it together (fingers crossed!)
